Some of the best advice that I have ever received was along the following lines: “people need to feel celebrated.” And from experience, this has turned out to be true in almost all cases. People want to know that those they love, are thinking about them and are taking the time to make them feel special, even if it’s just once a year! Sure enough, Father’s Day is approaching, and for most of us, this is a time to make that guy in our lives feel celebrated for all that he does. But if you’re short on ideas, try one of our suggestions below, or follow our links to find the perfect way to celebrate Dad this weekend!
Take Dad Golfing
Nothing says celebrating Dad like taking him out for some golf. And in this day and age, there are more ways to go about it then the full 18 holes out in some stuffy country club. If you’re looking for a little fun and exercise, but want to do so in a laid back environment that includes food and drink, then head down to Top Golf. This two level driving range is located in the Domain and is perfect for groups or pairs. You also won’t have to deal with the sun as it’s covered, comes equipped with booths, seating/tables, and fans, and also has a restaurant that churns out great eats and drinks! But if you’re looking for something more traditional, but you are not a member of a club, check out Grey Rock Golf Club. They are run by the Austin Parks and Rec and allow non-member play and bookings. This beautiful course is surrounded by trees, rolling hills, and lush greens, making it a wonderfully scenic spot to spend a day with Dad!
Father’s Day Dining
Almost everyone likes a good meal out, and Father’s are no exception. You should expect some lines as many people will be eating out, but here are a few suggestions of places that will make it worth your while. If Dad enjoys grilled meats, Estancia Churrascaria is a Brazilian style steakhouse serving up some of the best tasting meat in town! This is a fixed price, all you can eat restaurant, that includes a huge salad bar in case you crave your share of vegetables. They have an extensive wine list and traditional sides and desserts. Bring an appetite, because you won’t leave this place hungry!
If you aren’t a meat person, try out Hanabi Japanese Cuisine. Their sushi is ranked as some of the best in Austin, but they also have a variety of options and authentic Japanese foods to try. Hanabi has a couple locations in the north/central parts of town, so even though there will be some lines, they are well able to handle it, and their food is so good that it’s worth the wait.
Finally, if you’re looking for more of a laid back place to take your Father to, then you can’t go wrong with Hula Hut. Situated on the water, this local Tex-Mex favorite has all your favorite Mexican dishes, and of course margaritas and beer. You can sit out on the patio and watch boats, or the sun set, all while chowing down on delicious fajitas, burritos, or enchiladas!
Other Ideas to Celebrate the Old Man
If golf or food aren’t your Dad’s thing, then there are a host of other events and options of things to do this weekend. Free Fun in Austin is just that, fun, free, and in Austin! They offer a top ten of free events to check out. Some of our favorites are the Independence Brewing Company’s Day for Dad, and the Concert in the Park by the Austin Symphony. But if you need more ideas, here are another top 10 ideas to celebrate your father this weekend!

As apartment locators, we pride ourselves in finding homes that best suit our clients’ tastes, needs, and personal lifestyle. Location is almost always a central component for choosing a home. But for most of us, finding a good place to live is like finding a needle in a haystack. Locators, on the other hand, know the area, have access to a large database of available apartments, and they are well experienced with market trends and lifestyle options. So, making sure the location fits well with personal interests is one reason why working with a locator is so vital for the apartment hunting process.
Living with Pets:
As a city, Austin is very pet-friendly. If you take a stroll down to Lady Bird Lake, go for a swim in Barton Creek, or even grab a bite to eat at many local eateries, you are sure to see animals and their faithful companions enjoying life together. Living with pets is a joy for many, but it can often be a challenge to find a home that is simultaneously pet-friendly while also offering the amenities that make life fun and enjoyable. In what follows, we list three pet-friendly apartment complexes here in Austin which are also great places to live for anyone, in that they are well-located and they include a list of other attractive features.
Onion Creek – South Austin
If you are looking to live in the south of Austin, and you have pets, Onion Creek Luxury Apartments is conveniently located off IH35 and boasts a range of amenities that include an indoor basketball court, outdoor volleyball, and most importantly, an on-site dog park and walking area. They accept dogs by breed, and are open to cats and other small animal friends. If you like to take your pet for outdoor excursions, the Southpark Meadows shopping center is located right across the freeway with a PetSmart, park, and Walmart included. There are also trails and a greenbelt behind, and near, the Onion Creek complex if you’re looking for more access to nature! This spot will definitely allow for good living for both pet and owner while also being accessible to downtown, UT, and other hotspots around town.
The Triangle – Central Austin
The Triangle is a beautiful shopping, dining, and living experience that offers luxury and urban style apartments and lofts. This spot includes living/work spaces, a walking trail and dog park, and excellent restaurants (one of our favorites is Mandola’s). They accept cats and dogs–up to two animals per unit. The location is also ideally located in central Austin, off Lamar Blvd. So downtown, the UT campus, and much more is all right around the corner. What’s more, just a few blocks down the road, there is a Central Market that has an adjacent park, picnic tables, and open walking spaces–now you can get your shopping done and stretch your legs!
Mesa Verde – North Austin
If the location you need is in the north of Austin, consider Mesa Verde, which is situated just off North Mopac. Right across from the Domain, this apartment complex includes a Yoga studio, indoor racquetball, tennis courts, a lap pool, and a pet park. This is one place where you and your pet friend can stay in shape by staying active! And if you need anything, there is a Whole Foods across the highway, quick access to the Apple campus, and of course, all the shopping, dining, and entertainment you might need within the Domain itself. You won’t have to go far from home to access almost everything you might desire, and we think this is a great thing!
